How to Angle Corners and Joists
A simple way to give your deck a unique expressive quality is to soften square corners by chamfering or clipping the corners. Usually, this is accomplished by positioning 45-degree corners that project 2’ over a cantilevered beam. This framing technique doesn’t require the installation of any extra footings or posts than a deck designed with square corners. You may be required to install footings and posts on the corners if you choose to project more than 2’ past the beam or the decks elevation is too low to position a drop beam below the joists. The corner joints will be formed by two 22.5-degree mitered cut boards.
