Siberian Larch is available in 1x6, 5/4x6, and 2x6 for deck materials. These thicknesses can all be used for decking and the 2x6 can be modified to make 2x4’s and 2x2’s for all rail parts other than rail posts. Other sizes like 4x4’s are currently being developed for future introduction. In addition to decks Siberian Larch is also used for exterior siding and interior floors and trim.

Because these forests were located in Communist Russia, they were in essence isolated from markets around the world during the Cold War before the Soviet Union dissolved in 1992. It is a very durable wood, which is evident in that many houses and churches built from this wood have lasted more than 800 years. Because of its rot resistance it has also been used for mine props, railroad ties, and telephone poles. It has been used in Europe in recent years for the construction of schools, commercial and residential projects because of its outstanding building properties and environmental upside. Europeans are years ahead of the U.S. in environmental issues because they are less influenced by the powerful lumber industry lobbyists.
