Everyday it seems the building industry is accelerating the adoption of green practices. People can see the effects of our past abuses and are commited to make changes. An appreciation and respect for the environment will serve us well in forward thinking design. We can’t continue to build like we used to. We will run out of trees and we will degrade the soil, air quality, and water. We want to expand and reinforce new ideas to improve the way we build. We need to begin working with nature instead of against it.

Deck designers and builders are smart people; we can make a difference one project at a time. Our decks should be designed to have longer life cycles. We should embrace innovation of the materials we use. You may say to yourself that one person can’t make a difference. But we should all be reminded that if we are not part of the solution then we become part of the problem. We don’t live in isolation. Our actions collectively will have a huge impact on the environmental situation on Earth.
