Troubleshooting and problem solving can often help you overcome stumbling blocks in the design process. Every site presents a unique set of obstacles to confront. You will want to identify any physical objects present that will interfere with a potential design.
Landscaping, small trees, vents, and AC Units can be removed or adjusted if necessary. Other more permanent obstacles may need to be worked around. Sometimes large trees can be framed around to preserve within a deck design. However be aware that excavating footings can destroy root systems of trees. Retaining walls may require manipulating footings locations to landing away from walls. Building above a patio may require cutting through concrete. If possible it is best to install footings before the patio is installed. Take notice of any doors or windows that could be blocked by a post or limit day lighting.
You can save yourself the frustration of makeshift design revisions by acknowledging obstacles from the outset. Some site preparation might be required to accommodate your design. Take a thoughtful, realistic approach to what changes may be necessary and worthwhile. |
