The first course of decking running parallel to the house can trap water next to the house leading to water pooling and drainage problems. This is often caused as dirt and debris block drainage. One solution is to add drainage slots to the bottom of the first deck board every 24". You can make the cuts using a circular saw. Set your blade depth about half the thickness of the decking. The result will be a scoop shaped cavity.
