Fireplaces and chimneys are not capable of supporting a deck with a ledger board connection. We recommend framing around fireplaces and chimneys using an H frame. Install a ledger board on either side of the chimney and install double joists from the house to the beam on both sides of the chimney. Install a double beam in between the double joists using a double hanger to transfer the loads from the interior joists away from the fireplace or chimney.
